League of Women Voters of Orange and Seminole County
sponsors "VAMOS A VOTAR" a Central Florida
effort to vastly increase the voting turnout of registered
Hispanic voters. This effort ties in closely with the
League's historic mission of encouraging participation
in government and voting.
Other partners include: La Prensa, Families USA, Telemundo,
Univision, "En Agenda" Radio Talk Show and
others.
The Hispanic population is the fastest growing ethnic group in the state, but has and is voting at very low turnout rates. Vamos A Votar is an historic program for Central Florida that began under the umbrella of the League of Women Voters and Democracia USA to bring about a measurable increase in voting. Using a collaborative NON PARTISAN effort, with a broad cross section of community, and business and media partners, activities will focus on encouraging AT HOME VOTING. From activating our voters, and helping them find places to easily access helpful information about elections, candidates and issues this program is geared to changing behavior patterns and engaging Hispanic voter participation.
Some key points of this initiative are:
LONG TERM HISPANIC VOTER TURNOUT EFFORT
CENTRAL FLORIDA FOCUS
PROVIDE MOTIVATION AND HELPFUL INFORMATION
NONPARTISAN INFO ON CANDIDATES AND ISSUES, pro & con
ENGAGE MEDIA PARTNERS for MULTI AVENUE IMPACT
ENGAGE BUSINESS PARTNERS AND COMMUNITY GROUPS
TIDBIT: In Florida, those counties with 5% or
more registered voters not general population
of a language group are required to have a ballot in
that language.
